Yemeni novelist wins literary prize in Egypt

Yemeni novelist Nadia Al-Kawkabani won the prize for best Arabic novel in the Naguib Mahfouz novel competition for the year 2025, organized by the Supreme Council of Culture in Egypt.

Al-Kawkabani won the prize for his novel “This is not the story of Abdo Saeed”, which received appreciation from the jury, winning the prize worth 75,000 Egyptian pounds.

This coronation is a new literary success which testifies to the growing presence of the Yemeni novel on the Arab cultural scene.

According to the prize announcement press release, the number of works submitted this year reached 132 novels, divided between 102 Egyptian novels and 30 Arabic novels.

The Naguib Mahfouz Novel Prize is one of the most important annual literary awards awarded by the Supreme Council of Culture. Its objective is to support novelistic creativity in Egypt and the Arab world, to strengthen creative competition between writers and to enrich the Arab library with distinguished works.
